How Deutsche Bahn Uses 3D Printed Manufacturing Aids to Streamline Vehicle Maintenance
Deutsche Bahn, one of the largest railway companies in the world, has been using 3D printing technology to produce manufacturing aids and streamline their operations. With over 100,000 parts produced since 2015, they have saved millions of euros. By utilizing Formlabs 3D printing solutions, Deutsche Bahn has been able to create practical tools that simplify workflows, reduce costs, and improve efficiency. They have a 3D printing workshop in Neumünster with a variety of 3D printers that allow them to choose the right printing process and material for each job. The benefits of 3D printing include faster production, design flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. This technology has been used to create stencils for painting, scratch protection for walls, custom replacement parts, and mounts for handheld scanners. Deutsche Bahn aims to digitize 10 percent of all spare parts by 2030 to further improve their manufacturing capabilities.
