3D Printed Molds at Kastalon Create New Polyurethane Product Categories
Kastalon, a manufacturer of polyurethane parts, faced challenges in machining molds for their customers' end-use part requests. The expense and complexity of the process often led them to reject complicated or cost-inefficient parts. To explore alternative methods, they researched 3D printing and eventually acquired the Form 3L printer from Formlabs. Initially met with skepticism from colleagues, the printer proved its capabilities by producing test pieces that met specifications and had a smooth finish. The machine shop manager, impressed by the results, now prefers 3D printing over traditional machining for smaller projects in order to free up bandwidth for larger projects.
